Raising Little Men

Hey, dolls!!

Wishing you all a beautiful Valentine’s Day full of more love then you can imagine and no matter what phase of life you are in know you are loved by everyone around you today and always! Everyday is a chance to love to the fullest so don’t take your days for granted! πŸ™‚

As I was driving home last night I just had the hugest smile on my face thinking about how much love I have in my life. When a three old tells you that you’re his valentine and gives you a dozen pink roses because “you wove pink” you can’t help but melt into a puddle on the floor and feel so thankful. Thankful for parents and grownups who understand the importance of teaching their little boys to be gentlemen at a young age. That inside that little toddler heart a man is growing who is learning how to treat the special people in their life. That you walk your lady to the door at the end of the day (or date) and say thank you. That women deserve to be told they are loved and appreciated everyday. That every time you see flowers that remind you of her you should buy them just because. That women can be “head” doctors and not just nurses. That there are no such things as “girl colors” or “boy colors” and you can be whatever you want to be when you grow up, even Taylor Swift with a boy voice. That it’s okay to stop and have a dance party when your jam comes on. That using glitter when you craft is the best no matter what other people might think. Don’t get me wrong, we love to wrestle and play sports all day too, but I think it’s so important to encourage and develop the sweet side of your sons too. Don’t make them feel like they have to choose one or the other. Let them play and grow and imagine, they’ll be better men because of it.

And one of the most important things is that the best gifts are time spent together. If you ask them, they’ll say something similar. I had Riley tell me what he loved about his parents so we could turn them into conversation hearts for their valentine’s day gift and I loved what he came up with.

I love you because:

  • I really like you
  • I really really love you
  • You’re strong
  • You take care of me in the hospital when I have surgery
  • You play with me really much
  • We all go to Costco together on Sundays

Out of the mouths of babes comes all the sweetness in the world. So tell them they’re sweet. Say thank you. Be patient. Teach them now to be the kind of adults you would be proud of. There’s someone out there who will be so thankful you did. Raising little men is a wonderful and important job. Don’t take it lightly and enjoy every moment because someday they’ll be holding someone else’s hand and giving someone else Valentine’s Day flowers.

To all the moms and dads and nannys who helped raise sweet boys who turned into sweet men, wonderful husbands and fathers themselves, thank you! The ladies in their lives are so thankful and don’t take it for granted.

“Be somebody that makes everybody feel like a somebody.”

Happy Valentine’s Day and thanks for stopping by!
