A Weekend Away

Hey dolls!

Birthday week continues and I can’t wait to share all about our weekend with you! I apologize in advance for how long this post is, don’t say you weren’t warned! I successfully surprised the hubs with 2 nights downtown to celebrate our birthdays and it was so fun! I love love birthdays and surprises and celebrating so I was so giddy driving downtown knowing the hubs had no idea what he was in for! I had packed a bag for him and hid it in my car earlier in the week and then snuck one down of my clothes after he had gone to work one day, hehe. First stop was a family lunch at his parents where he just thought we were dropping off Roo but really that was the first part of the surprise. Then it was off to the city.

I kept asking him all week what he thought we were doing but his guesses never even came close. When we pulled up to the hotel he thought we were going to an event there, ha! But when they valet opened the door I got to say we’re checking in for the weekend! SURPRISE! I should have gotten a picture of his cute surprised face! So great! I told him we were staying down until Monday and trying new restaurants and relaxing and celebrating and his first question was did you bring my contact case and toothbrush too?! HAHA! He could not figure out how I packed the toiletries when he had just brushed his teeth before we left, men don’t understand how much we can fit into our purses when we need to. I also should have gotten a picture of his face when the valet took out our 2 duffels and 2 hanging bags out of the trunk that he hadn’t even noticed were there, win! I was so nervous the surprise would get spoiled by a detail like the trunk or that he noticed my face cream in my purse or that I was just so excited that I almost blurted it out a couple times during the week! But it went off without a hitch and we had such a fabulous time! We had an amazing view to wake up to everyday and every meal was amazing! Such good recommendations from my girlfriends! I apologize that these are just IPhone photos, I am in the hunt for a great camera for my day to day pics so hopefully I will get a user friendly one soon! Enjoy some snap shots from our weekend! I linked some of the outfit details as well!

IMG_3617IMG_3638IMG_3637How amazing is the view from Navy Pier on a gorgeous day?! We stood here and soaked it in for so long. Spring has a way of doing that to you after the long long Winter. Chicago has the prettiest skyline, don’t you think?IMG_3494IMG_3492

Sunda is the best New Asian restaurant we have ever been too! What looks like a mess on our plates is actually a to-die for brussel sprout salad and I think I said it was the bomb like 5 times! We also tried the shitaki edamame dumplings, 2 kinds of sushi, pho and pad thai plus a couple adult beverages, duh. To say we were full is an understatement. We walked back to the hotel instead of taking a cab, 1 because it was so nice and 2 because we needed to walk off our food! If you ever find yourself in River North and craving Asian food you HAVE to go! The service and environment are great and the food is worth the $$$ that you will drop for dinner. Promise!IMG_3635IMG_3634

Easter brunch was soo amazing at Nellcote. Not only is the decor amazing with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and the best wallpaper in the hallways and bathrooms, but the food is also to die for! Brunch is one of my favorite meals ever so we sipped our cocktails and split the best potatoes ever and arugula sunny side up egg pizza over a couple hours and just enjoyed ourselves! YUM! The hubs also had a maple glazed donut with bacon crumbles that might be one of his fave parts of the weekend, ha! So worth the gluten induced belly ache!I highly recommend it for a special occassion, girls brunch or Sunday funday!

When we were walking around we stumbled across this adorable window at Macys and I just haddd to play tourist and take a photo. Because when you’re wearing all pink like the mannequins it’s just a given, right?! Props to the hubs for getting a decent smile out of me in a solo shot. Big cheesin alone is a strugggle for me, as proven on my entire blog, ha!

Since the weather was perfect we decided to cross another thing off our Chicago bucket list and take an architectural boat tour along the river. It was so interesting to learn about the famous buildings in Chicago as well as some Chicago history plus enjoy some much needed sunshine and couple time. Please note the guy who got in alll of my photos but oh well I still thought this was a cute selfie of us so I posted it anyways. We seriously had the best weather this weekend! Not pictured but worth the mention, afternoon CUSTARD FROM SHAKE SHACK!!!! So glad it made it’s way from NYC! So worth the hype and the calories! Oh and the fries, also worth it! Hehe.

Dinner at Cafe Ba- Ba- Reba was delish. Tapas and sangria are some of my favorite things so we were so excited to try it after lots of recommendations. I wish we would have had more tapas because the paella was a disappointment and after eating it for years this was the worst I’ve ever had, womp. But the garlic red pepper flake shrimp and the goat cheese with tomato sauce was lick the plate delicious anddd you can’t go wrong with a berry-delicous pitcher of sangria. Def would recommend anyone going for tapas, just skip the veggie paella and you’re golden.  Sidenote-how cute is my hubby? Right?!

Literally, one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had! If you’re gluten free you know it can be hard to find a place that can make a benedict that isn’t just toppings on a plate because you took out the muffin, sounds so appealing right? HA! Exactly my point. So I was so excited when I found that Beatrix has a quinoa cake benedict! AH! The flavor and texture was perfect. Highly recommend it for brunch with a dirty chai, cute hubby not included. 😉 The hubs had steak and eggs which he also said was delish. We ate and drank like royalty this weekend!

Told you this was a long post, but we seriously had such a good weekend and I wanted to share all the details. Some weekend away tips, try to plan outfits that you can incorporate a lot of the same accessories so you don’t have to over pack. Also outfits where you can re-wear denim and outwear because they can take up a lot of room in your bags. Always pack one extra day outfit because you never know what you might decide to do sight-seeing. Oh and get cash ahead of time so you don’t waste time tracking down an ATM for tips and taxis. You want to make the most out of your time so over planning the little things helps make your weekend seamless. Oh and pack nude flats because you might forget heels for an outfit and nude flats go with everything. I hope you enjoyed our weekend recap! The best part was when the hubs said it was the perfect surprise weekend! 🙂 I agree! It was perfect! And even though we got in a car accident on the way out of the city, God protected us and my car and we came out with little damage and no injuries. Things can change in the blink of an eye so take time for things and people that matter and celebrate all the days you get! Life is beautiful and I am so blessed to get to share mine with my hubby who makes me laugh, smile and be a total dork like no one else can.

“Laugh as much as you breathe, love as much as you live.”

Thanks for stopping by!
