Words to Live By

Hey Dolls!

So sometimes I come across a Bible verse or a quote from someone/something and it just stops me dead in my tracks and I want to yell “preachhhh!” “Amennn!” “That’s exactly what people need to hear!” So when I found this quote from Angelina Jolie, I just had had had to share it with you all.

“No matter what you have gone through in your youth, it is about who you choose to be in life. You can define your own destiny. You can be stronger than a very difficult past and overcome it.”

So powerful right? Whenever my birthday comes around I spend time thinking about the last year and what I’ve learned, accomplished, tried/failed and what I want to bring into my next year. The older I get and the faster time goes, the more I want to make the most out of every single day and sometimes that means being a little selfish. Being selfish for your health that is; be it mental, physical or emotional, you are the best for others when you are the best for yourself first. Sometimes that means cutting people/hobbies/addictions out so the negativity doesn’t bring you down. Sometimes it means taking time for yourself at the gym. Sometimes it means a little more self talk; getting up everyday and telling yourself you can do it, whatever it is. You are not defined by your past but you are responsible for your future and you can become a better you every single day. Don’t hold yourself down being a victim of your circumstances and experiences. Get up. Shape up. And live your life. I have found this to be the biggest sense of healing and strength in my life and while it is an ongoing process, I wanted to share a little motivation and support for anyone who might be wrestling with their own demons and feel like they can’t come out on the other side. You can and you will! Just take it one day at a time.

“Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think and loved more than you know.”

Thanks for stopping by and letting me ramble! I can’t wait to see what 27 has in store and I look forward to being better than I’ve been at 26! Happy birthday week!

      Hi Katie!
Yes, I’ve been through my fair share of hardships from abuse (mental/emotional/physical) through most of my childhood and into early adulthood as well as romantic relationships in my past. I think the most empowering thing you can do for yourself is to forgive and not continue seeing yourself as a victim. Was I a victim, absolutely, but there comes a day when you need to leave the past in the past, pick yourself up and begin to heal. Ultimate healing happens when you can move towards the future not carrying the past with you. It’s hard and don’t get me wrong, the past has a sneaky way of popping up every once in awhile but you can and will overcome it. Something that is also so important is having people in your life that you can trust and go to with the hard stuff and whose clarity will help you get out of bad situations. Don’t stay in abusive relationships. Don’t look for fulfillment in others. Love yourself and stand up for yourself because you deserve the best. I hope that inspires you a little without getting into too many details. Maybe someday I will feel like I can share a little more!

      Thanks for stopping by! xoxo
